Willard Wilson Huffman

Willard Wilson “Bill” Huffman, age 96, of Newton, NC, passed away August 12, 2017, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born April 15, 1921, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late George Lee Huffman and Sue Bettie Wilson Huffman.

Bill was a member and attended Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton, NC since his retirement from Michigan to his beloved Catawba County in 1982. Bill was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Pacific theater as a Technical Sergeant in the US Marine Corps. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his career in Michigan was with the Michigan Dept. of Corrections as a parole officer and later a supervisor and parole violation hearing officer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, M. Donnie Welch Huffman, and brothers, Carroll W. Huffman and George Lee Huffman, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Spirit Place at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC, with Rev. Susan Roddey officiating. A reception for friends will follow the service.

A private graveside service was held at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory, NC.
