Edith was born on May 8, 1925 in Lafayette to the late Frederick and Rhetta (Stout) Layton. Edith grew up in Lafayette before settling in Andover over 70 years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1990, she was a Bookkeeper for Sussex County. She was a lifelong member of Christ Church in Newton.
Edith was an avid gardener, it is where she spent countless hours cultivating a sanctuary of colorful blooms and lush greenery. In addition to her gardening, Edith was a gifted crochet artist. She also had a passion for bird watching, she spent many serene moments observing and documenting the local birdlife.
The beloved wife to the late William Bale, Edith is survived by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Along with her parents and husband, Edith was predeceased by her son, Stephen William and her siblings, Charles, Fred, George, Austin, Arvilla and Marie.
A visitation will take place from on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 62 Main Street, Newton, NJ. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Tranquility Cemetery in Green Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to Father John's Animal Hospital, 50 Father Johns Ln, Lafayette, NJ 07848. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
