Ellen was born in Paterson, New Jersey on January 3, 1936. Not long after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from Notre Dame University of Maryland, Ellen relocated to Fredon, NJ and went on to dedicate 25 years as a computer programmer for Selective Insurance in Branchville, NJ. She shared 50 years of blissful marriage with her beloved husband and best friend, Frederick W. Manak Sr., before his passing in 2011.
Ellen’s passion for music began in childhood and she found great joy in playing the piano throughout her life. She was a familiar sight to friends and neighbors who would often see Ellen enjoying a good book on her front porch. Though she was an avid reader of all genres, historical fiction novels were her favorite. Ellen’s love for puzzles, whether crosswords, jigsaws, or Sudoku, was a testament to her sharp mind. She was also an exceptional baker, remembered fondly for her delicious treats.
Together with her late husband Fred, Ellen embarked on many cherished travel adventures where they would take their trailer to Airstream rallies and spend quality time at the Mill Race Golf and Camping Resort in Pennsylvania.
Ellen is survived by her sons Frederick W. Manak Jr. and his wife Mary, Michael J. Manak and his wife Kathleen, Richard S. Manak and his wife Lori; and her treasured grandchildren Clara Rose, Liam Michael, Aaron Patrick, and Katie Manak Shelton and her husband Cody. .
Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frederick W. Manak Sr.
A visitation for Ellen will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 6pm to 8pm at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton, NJ 07860. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, Thursday June 27, 2024 at 10am at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 24 Halsted St, Newton, NJ. Entombment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.
