John was born and raised in Rutherford, New Jersey. Shortly after graduating high school, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Navy. After bravely serving, he was honorably discharged in August of 1970.
Following his military service, John began a long and dedicated career as a UPS driver where he worked tirelessly for over 30 years before retiring. After his retirement, John found joy in working seasonally at the Great Gorge Golf Club in Vernon, where his beloved wife, Susan, greeted guests at the front desk. He also spent time in Newton as a medical transportation driver, ensuring patients made it safely to and from their appointments.
In John’s spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of his favorite bingo scratch-offs, often saying, “You won’t win if you don’t play.” He was a devoted fan of the New York Giants and his childhood home coincidentally had a window overlooking Giants Stadium. His passion for the team was unmatched, though his family still laughs at the fact that his son became a Jets fan.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Susan Edwards; his daughter Evelyn Bullock and her late husband Anthony; his daughter Janice Murray and her husband Patrick; his daughter Jennifer Martinek and her husband Rob; and his son John Edwards Jr. and his wife Hayley; his beloved grandchildren Megan, Tyler, twins Kayla and Carly, Vanessa, Charlotte, and twins Aubrey and Olivia.
Funeral arrangements will be held privately under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home.
