Born on April 23, 1949, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Philip and Angelina Newsome, Patrick spent much of his childhood in Belleville, NJ. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force Reserve, where he worked on aircraft while beginning his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Later in life, while raising his sons, Patrick proudly earned his bachelor’s degree from Bloomfield College at the age of 40.
Patrick dedicated many years to a respected career in healthcare administration, beginning with Blue Cross Blue Shield in Florham Park, New Jersey. He later worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Barnabas Medical Center before joining Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, NJ, where he finished his career before retiring to enjoy the home he loved with his wife, Sandi.
In his free time, Patrick enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of Picatinny Golf Club. He had a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife and loved spending time outdoors. He could often be found feeding the ducks along the river behind his home and watching the wild turkeys, deer, and even the occasional bear that wandered through—always from a safe distance.
Patrick was also skilled at woodworking and enjoyed creating furniture and other pieces. Rarely one to sit still, he was almost always working on his home, taking on major renovation projects himself and taking great pride in the home he built and cared for over the years.
Above all, Patrick cherished time spent with his family. Though quick with a sarcastic remark, he was always the first to lend a helping hand, caring for his parents, in-laws, and son during their final days. Patrick was not one to express his emotions openly, but he showed his love through quiet acts of care and unwavering dedication. He embraced his role as both father and stepfather with equal love and pride, treating all of his children as his own.
Patrick leaves behind many cherished memories with his beloved wife, Sandi Newsome; children Gary Newsome, Randy Newsome, Desiree Yates, and Heather Bonney; nine grandchildren Kevin, Sara, Emma, Alec, Kayleigh, Damian, Audrey, Faith, and Mattison; four great-grandchildren Aria, Ian, Sadie, and Liam; and brother Dennis Newsome.
He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Angelina Newsome; his son, Shawn Ostendorf; his grandson, Zayne Bonney; and his brother, Stephen Newsome.
Patrick will be remembered for his sharp wit, humorous sarcasm, and the joy he found in time spent with family, friends, and the great outdoors. Though he rarely spoke about his feelings, the love he showed through his actions, loyalty, and quiet devotion to his family will remain with them always.
Visitation for Patrick will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ.
A Funeral Mass officiated by Father ST Sutton will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 24 Halsted Street, Newton, NJ, followed by Patrick’s final resting place in Glendale Cemetery located in Bloomfield, NJ.
