Kate was born in Lviv, Ukraine and grew up there until she was 9 years old. She earned a master’s degree in education and became a teacher for PS 38 in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to her passion for teaching, Kate was an incredibly talented artist. Her paintings and drawings spoke to the depth of her soul and her ability to see the extraordinary in the everyday.
Most of all, Kate was a devoted mother. Her daughter, Katherine, was the light of her life, and Kate cherished every moment spent together.
Kate is survived by her husband, Michael Carlson; her daughter, Katherine Wynter Carlson; her parents, Dmitriy and Larisa Kirichenko; her sister, Alice McCarthy and husband, Matthew; her father-in-law, Robert Carlson; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, their spouses, and their beautiful children – her 17 nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by a large extended family.
Visitation will be held from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm on Monday, December 30, 2024 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 31 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 103 Delaware Crest Dr, Dingmans Ferry, PA, interment will follow in Milford Cemetery, Federal Rd, Milford, PA.
