

Born on Jan. 21, 1954, in Niagara Falls, Doug grew up knowing the joy and importance of family and friends.
His enjoyment of hockey, baseball, basketball, and golf started at an early age and were important to him. Doug played for the Niagara Falls Jr. B Canucks in the 70’s and was involved for many years with the Auld Reid OldTimers Hockey Tournament as an adult.
Doug met his wife, Barb, while attending Niagara College in Welland. They were married on PEI on July 30, 1977, and returned to Welland to start their life together while Doug worked for Union Carbide. When it was time to buy a home and start a family Doug felt the need to put down roots in Niagara Falls and be closer to family.
Doug worked for various companies during his career including John Deere, Fleet Industries, World Kitchen and at the Niagara Falls Bus Terminal. In his retirement, Doug enjoyed meeting up with the boys for an early morning coffee at McDonalds.
Doug is survived by his wife Barbara (Hardy), their children Christopher (Lauren) and Katharine, and two adored GrandGirls Cassandra and Rebecca. Brother Randy, brother-in-law Derek Wood, and sister Jody (Sam) Biamonte. Brothers-in law Stephen (Christine) Hardy, William (Darla) Hardy and John Peter (Pam) Harkness, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Ontario and PEI.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Andrew & Mona (Rivard) Ness, sister Lori Wood, father-in-law Edgar Hardy, mother-in-law Audrey (MacCaull) Harkness (Doug), brother-in-law Stanley Hardy and sister-in-law Linda Hardy.
Visitation will take place on Friday March 6 from 5pm-8pm and Saturday March 7 at 10am. Funeral service at 11am in the Hetherington & Deans Chapel at 5176 (Victoria Ave., Niagara Falls.)
Celebration of Life reception at Royal Canadian Legion Br.# 479 at 5603 Spring St., Niagara Falls from 12:30pm to 4pm.
Doug will be buried at a future date during a private ceremony at Stamford Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
His family would like to thank all the caregivers and healthcare providers.
