GRIEVE, Ethel Ferguson (nee Ellah) - September 7, 1920 - March 11, 2014 Peacefully, with her family at her side, Ethel passed away on March 11th at the Hotel Dieu Shaver hospital in her 94th year. Ethel was cherished and loved by her late husband David (1983). She will be forever remembered and loved by her children, David, Charles (Jill), Harold (Barbara), Diane and Joanne (Ken). She will always be adored and loved by her 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Ethel was predeceased by her sisters, Helen, Marion, Margaret and Shirley and is survived by her brother Robert. Ethel was born to Bill and Jean Ellah on her parent's farm in Downy Township, within the St. Marys-Stratford area in 1920. She cherished many of the memories enjoyed in a rural life, living and working, on her parent's farm in her early years. Upon completing her early schooling, Ethel then attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Kitchener, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1942. She married David Grieve from Seaforth, Ontario, in 1944 and joined him in the Maritimes while he was stationed with the RCAF during WWII. After the war, Ethel and Dave settled their family, firstly in London, Ontario, and then moving to Niagara Falls (Stamford and Chippawa) with their children. Ethel was a registered nurse for The Greater Niagara General Hospital for 30 years prior to her retirement in 1984. An independent and strong woman, Ethel moved to Bruce County, after the death of her husband, to live in the place she considered her paradise. Here, in Sauble Beach on Lake Huron, Ethel built her own home and enjoyed the tranquil gifts of a life on Lake Huron shores . . . the woods, the birds, the flowers, her garden and most of all, the beach. It was in Sauble Beach in Bruce County where she found the peace, tranquility and solitude that she cherished. In her final years, Ethel lived at Willoughby Manor in Chippawa where she enjoyed the community that she knew and loved. The family is very grateful to Dr. G. Arvinte, for her genuine kindness and gentle care of their mother in her final days, and the special care given by all staff on 2 West, Hotel Dieu Shaver, a special place. Also, the family would like to thank the staff of Willoughy Manor for their love, kindness and support of their mother over the last several years. A private family service will be held on Saturday, March 15th at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME , 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. on-line condolences at www.pattersonfuneralhome.com
