Survived by her children, Christopher (Sara Caverley) of Ottawa, Jennifer (Shawn) Speed of Clearwater, Florida and Elizabeth McKaig (Gord) of Ancaster, and her former husband Woody McKaig. Linda was the beloved "Gammie" of Liberty, Savannah, Lucas and Tyson. Gammie delighted in giving them too many treats and sharing her love of reading.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Shirley (Malcolmson) and Francis Matthews Q.C., her sisters, Maureen (the late Paul) Bator and Mary Wilkes as well as brother, Michael Matthews, infant twin siblings Christopher and Gertrude, stepmother Mary (Knowiton) and her beloved Aunt Gert.
She is survived by her sisters, Tricia (Brian) Marchese, Joan (the late Ray) Crown and Margaret Matthews as well as by her brothers, Paul (Trudy), Tim (Judy Dakers), Joe (Annalea), Brian (Debbie) and Tom (Linda), and sister-in-law Judy Matthews. Linda was much loved by a very large group of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and life-long friends who will all miss her greatly.
Linda graduated from Loretto Academy, St. Michael's College (UofT) and University of Windsor Law School. She cherished her time working as an articling law student with her father, before being called to The Bar in 1976. Linda practiced law in St. Catharines at the newly formed firm of McKaig & McKaig and later was a partner at Sullivan Mahoney. Linda was immensely proud of her time as a Presiding Officer at the Ontario Consent and Capacity Board.
Linda relished ongoing relationships with high school and university classmates as well as new friends that she made easily. She was a longtime member of the University Women's club, an avid bridge player, passionate sports fan and enthusiastic golfer.
A consummate organizer, Linda loved to travel and enjoyed every conversation and interaction that she had with old friends, new friends and even those she had never met before. There was no role, however, that was more important to Linda than being a mother and a grandmother.
Linda was tremendously grateful for a close-knit family of caregivers as well as the care and support she received from the Niagara Region Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT), the Walker Family Cancer Centre, Willoughby Manor and Hospice Niagara.
Family and friends will be received at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 3 - 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 (time and place to be confirmed). Cremation has taken place.
