Miguel Purugganan Carag was called home to the Lord on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 76. He is leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories.
Cherished son of Honoria C. Carag, of the Philippines and the late Vincente M Carag. Dearly beloved husband of Jennifer for 52 years. Loving father of Marinela, Maricar and her husband Matthew Braithwaite and Michael and his wife Deanna. Treasured grandfather of Ethan, Aidan, and Owen Carag. Dear brother of Vicente P. Carag, Clarita C. Barnes, Dolores C. Laya, Belen C. Bantayan, Briccio C. Carag, Bueno C. Carag, Belinda C. Lanuzo, Bernard C. Carag, Bella C. Nemiaga, the late Santiago Carag and the late Benjar C. Carag.
Miguel emigrated to Canada in 1989, beginning a new chapter of life marked by hard work, resilience, and devotion to family. He embraced his new home while remaining deeply connected to his roots, values, and traditions. A man of quiet strength and gentle spirit, Miguel found joy in traveling to new places and spoiling his grandchildren, reflecting his curiosity, generosity, and love for life. His kindness, steady presence, and unwavering love touched everyone who knew him.
His beloved brother, Vicente, remembered Miguel as “a quiet commander of our hearts, leading through kindness, wisdom beyond his years, and an unwavering sense of duty.”
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we take comfort in knowing that Miguel now rests in God’s eternal peace, and his memory will live on in the lives he shaped, the love he shared, and the joy he brought to his family.
“The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them.” — Wisdom 3:1
Rest now, Miguel. Our Compass and our Strength.
