I was so in awe of the documentary Black Watch Snipers it helped me better realize what my father faced during WWII. I just wish there was a credible list of all members available. My father was a prisoner of war and held captive in Stalag 11B known to be one of the worst hell holes to exist.  My father survived and returned home a skeleton. He passed at the early age of 36.  God bless Russell Eugene 'Sandy' Sanderson. Unfortunately, I didn't know this gallant gentleman although he and my dad may have known one another having been members of the Canadian Black Watch Regiment. R.I.P.

Such Valour & Bravery that your Dad, Grandfather & Great-Grandfather gave during the toughest times of war. I've never cried for someone I haven't met before hearing of this man. I've been crying for the last 5 minutes. Rest In Peace hero.

I just saw the Black Watch Snipers video, and I just wanted to post about what an all-around badass this fellow was!  A Canadian hero, he was just like my own grandad, U.S. Navy veteran of Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, etc....
My sincerest respects to such an outstanding man!

Your Bravery, Honour, and courage will be passed on for future Generations ...........

As a cameraman I have made shots from "Sandy" during the liberation commemorations in Holland in 1915 at te village Beekbergen and Apeldoorn.  I am very proud to have him captured on the DVD "Hello Again" Rest in Peace Russel. you will Always be remembered bij the people in Apeldoorn. The City of the Veterans. I lived just outside the city of Groningen in Holland during the liberation in April '45.  "Sandy" was the brave soldier who "captured" 43 German Nazi soldiers from the park where my grandparents lived. I am writing my memoirs called "Finding Shelter" of that time and I am including this story about Sandy's service to us. Forever grateful!

Thank you Sir. Thank you for making it possible for myself and my children to have a safe childhood. You are a true hero. I'm sorry we never got the chance to meet. Lest we forget.

I am so sorry for your loss Mr. Sanderson was a friend of our family for many years.  I remember him as a strong proud man with smiling eyes.  I am sure he will be missed but NOT FORGOTTEN by many

I am saddened to hear of Mr. Sandersons passing. I was lucky to spend time with him in the Netherlands last year during the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation. He has often been in my thoughts and will always have a special place in my heart. He was a nobel and exemplary Veteran. You must all be so proud. My deepest sympathy to Gary and all of the family.
