Of Niagara Falls, passed away tragically on September 18, 2025, in a motorcycle accident, at the age of 62.
Born in Toronto, Tommy overcame many early challenges, like a broken home, being out on his own at 14 years old and built a life defined by resilience, hard work, and love for his family. A man larger than life, he was known for his bold personality, his outrageous sense of humour, stubbornness, and above all, his loyalty and devotion to those closest to him.
Tommy began his career working on the tankers/ships as a teenager, traveling the world; becoming a sailor - a career that took him all over the world. In his later years, he got a job into the Coast Guard which kept him closer to his priorities, his family. Through sheer determination, he built a successful life for himself. At just 20 years old, he bought his first home and soon after met his wife, Josie Verre Guthrie. Together they built a family filled with love and unwavering commitment.
He was a proud husband and father, always putting family first. Though his work often took him away, when he was home, his world revolved around his wife and son, Matt Guthrie. He will be remembered for his strength, honesty, unforgettable character, and the deep love he carried for those around him he cared about.
Tommy is survived by his beloved wife Josie Guthrie, his son Matt Guthrie, brother in law Greg Verre, sister in law Chiarina Verre, nieces Alyssa & Brianna Verre, mother Barbara Guthrie, sister Tammy Anderson, brother in law Derek Anderson, and nephews Brandon & Taylor Anderson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Black Frame Studios, 112 Hartzel Rd, St. Catharines, from 2pm-6pm. Please consider sharing a memory or story of Tommy at www.pattersonfuneralhome.com for his family.
