

HODGSON, Wayne Everett - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and Papa, Wayne Hodgson on November 12, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family. Survived by the love of his life and best friend, Elizabeth Anne (neé Sturdy) and his children and step-children, Christopher (Dr. Nicole Hodgson), Tania (Ron Badr), Charlotte Hodgson (Greg Tremble), Jennifer Hodgson (Damien Smith), and Joseph Grifa (Laura Hale). Proud and devoted Papa of Grace, Holla, Briar and Baily Smith, Genevieve and Griffin Badr and Matthew and Ava Hodgson. Wayne was born in Welland, Ontario. Predeceased by parents, Frederick and Inez Hodgson and brothers, Fred and Jack and nephew Maclean. Survived by brother Gary (Bonnie) and children, Craig and Bruce Hodgson. Will be sadly missed by nephew and best friend, Trent Hodgson and his daughter Julia. Also survived by niece Juliann (Tim Burke) and children, Tim, Evan and Breanne. Will be fondly remembered by the Torok and Paone families. Wayne retired from Hodgson Custom Rolling (formerly Hodgson Steel) in January 2015 after a 50 year career, holding many positions from Estimator to President. In January of this year, Wayne was inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame for his contribution to Rugby. He was regarded as an exceptional role model and mentor to numerous. He spent 20 years playing the sport with Niagara Wasps Rugby Club. Over the years, he won numerous Most Valuable Player and Clubsperson of the Year awards. He held many positions with the club executive serving as President, Treasurer, Club House Manager, and Grounds Keeper. Perhaps his greatest contribution was mentor and supporter. It was his dream for many years to move the Rugby Club from Port Colborne to Niagara Falls and in 2011, he purchased land in Niagara Falls to accomplish that dream and the Niagara Wasps officially moved to Niagara Falls this year. He has been honoured by Rugby Ontario with a volunteer award and the Niagara Wasps Rugby Club have created The Wayne Hodgson Award for Exceptional Lifetime Service within their organization. The family would like to thank the staff of the Juravinski Cancer Centre, with special thanks to Dr. Hotte, Dr. Dayes, Maryann and Dr. Nicole Hodgson. Special thanks to Dr. Bassil, Dr. Wendy Proctor and Jane Carson. We would also like to thank CCAC and the many kind personal support workers. A very special thank you to nurse Irene and our in-house nurse, Tania. Also to the many, many friends who stopped by to sit and chat, there are not enough words to thank you or express how much we appreciated the visits. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Monday November 16, 2015, between 2 pm and 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Juravinski Cancer Program, The World Wildlife Fund or the Children's Wish Foundation. A celebration of life will be held in the Oak Room at the Cairn Croft, Best Western Hotel, 6400 Lundy's Lane, Niagara Falls, Ontario from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday November 22, 2015.
