

Eugene E. Walsh, 89, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, August 30, 2010, while a resident of Bayview Health Center in Waterford. Eugene, son of the late Eugene and Elfrieda Walsh, was born in Rosendale, NY on July 11, 1921. Gene was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy Erna Walsh to whom he was married for 65 years. Before residing at Bayview, Gene lived with Dorothy as a resident of Crescent Point in Niantic. They also lived on Lantern Lane, Niantic for over 40 years.
Gene is survived by his daughter Jeanne Berardo and son-in-law James Berardo of Niantic; his son Michael Walsh and his fiancé Linda Marra of Westerly, RI; his granddaughters Mechelle Berardo of Quaker Hill and Dorothy Scott and her husband Jaime Scott of East Lyme; and his great-grandson Nathaniel. Gene was predeceased by his brother Herman Walsh of Florida.
Gene was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed being active and learning new things. He was an avid reader who also loved golf, bowling, and woodworking. He became a master gardener and earned his paralegal certification. During WWII, Gene was in the Navy and stationed in Panama. He held management positions for a number of companies including Brookhaven National Laboratories on Long Island, Babcock & Wilcox in Virginia and American Machine and Foundry of Montville, CT. These positions lead him to eventually open his own manufacturing firm called ProFabco Inc. in Old Saybrook, CT. Gene was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Niantic and was integral in establishing the church’s current location and building design.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 24 Society Road, Niantic on Tuesday September 7th at 11:00 a.m. There will be no visiting hours. Fulton Theroux is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory and honor of Eugene Walsh to “Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Garden” which needs to be completed and where Gene will finally be laid to rest with his beloved wife Dorothy.
