Port St. Lucie, Fla. — James Phillip Wells, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Nov. 18, 2021. Jim was born Dec. 8, 1942, in Boston, Mass. The eldest son of Harold and Josephine (Sileno) Wells both of Nahant, Mass.
Jim is survived by Barbara Gada Wells with whom he had five children, James Bernard Wells, Kristen Diane Scherer and her husband Mark, Todd Patrick Wells and his wife Joanna and Megan Elizabeth Wells. Jim was predeceased by his son Peter Louis Wells and his parents.
Jim is survived by his younger brother Richard and wife Carla Wells of Saugus, Mass.; niece Stacey; and nephew Gregory; as well as six grandchildren, Caitlyn, Mackenzie and Finn Wells, Graysen and Tate Scherer and Peter Wells-Young.
Jim was a graduate of Worcester Academy and Western Carolina University where his love of sports became his passion in life. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army National Guard. Jim was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.
Anyone who knew Jim knew his love of golf. Jim was a longtime member of Black Hall in Old Lyme and The Legacy in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Jim was a lifelong New England sports fan and was proud to say he was a Bostonian. He was a man who was especially proud of his family, children, and grandchildren.
Jim will be deeply missed by those closest to him. Known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and stories for days, many will hold these special memories close in their hearts.
Calling Hours will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic, forming a procession for a noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Ave., Niantic. The Mass will be viewable through live stream by visiting the funeral home website on Mr. Wells’ webpage and clicking the “Join Livestream” tab. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London.
