

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Edward J. “Boogie” Rome Jr. After receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2021, Boogie went on to courageously fight this awful disease with so much bravery and strength. His strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried him through until he peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the age of 73.
Born on October 14, 1951, Boogie was a resident of Luling, La. and a native of Laplace, La. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lisa Theriot Rome and parents, Edward Sr. and Ethel Rome.
Beloved father of Damien J. Rome (Alison) and Kristin Rome Graebert (Eddie). Stepfather of Benjamin Keeler (Jessie) and Elizabeth Keeler. Grandfather of Kinley, Harper, and Amelia Graebert. Brother of Sterling J. Rome (Susan) of Apopka, Fl., Alan J. Rome (Deena) of Destrehan, La. and Gail Rome Toups (Craig) of Metairie, La.
Boogie served his country as a military policeman during the Vietnam War. He began a career in law enforcement in 1974 in St. John Parish. He rose through the ranks and was named Chief Criminal Deputy under Sheriff Lloyd Johnson.
In 1983 he became a district attorney investigator in both St. John & St. Charles Parishes. During his career he was well respected in numerous agencies throughout Louisiana and Mississippi. He retired as a Captain with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
He was a member of numerous law enforcement organizations. He was the President for 2 years of the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association Investigator Section. A long serving Board of Director’s member of the Louisiana Association of Forgery Fraud Investigators Association.
He leaves behind numerous in-laws of the Theriot Family, along with nieces and nephews of the Rome and Theriot families.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support. We would like to thank all the nurses and staff at The Gayle and Tom Benson Ochsner Cancer Center for the amazing care that was given to us in the last few years. We would also like to thank the staff at The Sanctuary at Passages Hospice for everything that was done to make him comfortable in his final days.
Last, but far from least, we want to give a very heartfelt thank you to his compassionate oncologist Dr. Daniel Johnson, his surgeon Dr. Isaam Eid, and his nurse practitioner Carlie Scott. There are not enough words to adequately express how much we appreciate the knowledge and outstanding care that was provided by them. We could not have asked for a better team of healthcare professionals.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at HC Alexander Funeral Home, 22 Apple Street, Norco on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 10AM, Mass to follow at 12:30PM. Interment in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan, La. Arrangement by HC Alexander Funeral Home
