

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie Madere Melancon, parents, Linden and Mildred Melancon, his children, Jerrilynn and Casey Melancon, and sister, Judy Vicknair.
Gerald is survived by his children, Sherri Melancon and Gerald “Butch” Melancon (Geralynn), grandchildren, Jared, Brandi (Stephen), Stevie, Brooke, Ashley, Sarah, Trey, and Casey Michael, great-grandchildren, Baylor, Elijah, Alana, Giovanni, Liam, Thomas, Luke, and Ethan, and his brothers, Charles and Linden Melancon (Karen).
Gerald grew up in Lutcher, LA and graduated from Lutcher High School. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Madere, on August 13, 1960. Together they had 4 children and raised them in New Sarpy, LA. Gerald helped in pioneering recreational sports in St. Charles Parish and coached the Cobra football team. In 1988, he and Marjorie moved to Amite, LA to be closer to their family. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ponchatoula, LA and a captain of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Tickfaw, LA. He was proud to have served as a sheriff’s K9 deputy and Justice of the Peace in St. Charles Parish as well as the 2nd Vice President for the Justice of the Peace for the state of Louisiana in 1981. He retired from Shell Pipeline Company after 25 years of service, including spending 9 months in Africa. Gerald was known for his friendly personality and his great sense of humor. He loved to go fishing and spend time outdoors with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service for Gerald will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 13396 River Rd. Destrehan, LA. A memorial visitation will be held from 10AM-12PM with a funeral mass to begin at 12PM. Inurnment will follow at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery.
