

“Mickey” Mischel Joseph Ackerman, 80, of Destrehan, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Mickey was born on March 9, 1943 and was the son of the late Mischel C. and Dorothy “Teedie” Ackerman.
He was a native of Harahan, Louisiana and had been a resident of Destrehan for the past 51 years.
Mickey was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Carol Ann Calecas Ackerman, and his daughter, Rhonda Mischel Ackerman. He is survived by his daughters Kendra Ackerman and Angela “Annie” Guidry (Andre). Granddaughter Ashlyn “his Angel” Sibley (Samuel “Buddy”), and great-granddaughter, Blakely Ann Sibley. Son Steve Morris (Oay) and grandchildren Ariel Morris Peterson (Miles) and Mason Morris. In addition, Mickey is survived by his dog Spankey, his loyal companion for the last 11 years.
Mickey is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Calecas, Jr., (the late Dorothy), honorary sister, Barbara Morris, honorary grandchildren, Russell “Rusty” Carrone, Chase Crawford (Taylor), Kaysie Crawford, honorary great-grandchildren Prezley Crawford and Waylon Crawford. Extended family Carla Langley, Hannah Whitty, Anne Becnel Schexnaydre, two very special little boys Joshua and Jacob Schexnaydre, and many other relatives and friends.
Mickey was a hard-working, dedicated man who owned and operated Riverside Auto Parts. He served his community and helped many people in need. He enjoyed racing his ’55 Chevy at the weekend races, keeping his yard pristine, and above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition, proud friend of Bill W. for 39 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Rd., Destrehan, on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 1:30PM. Interment will be held on the church cemetery immediately following Mass. Viewing for the public will begin at 11AM until the time of services at 1:30PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Hospital for Children or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
