Anh Nguyen Ly

Anh N. Ly, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and educator, passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on April 1, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 88. Born on October 17, 1938, in Mỹ Tho, Vietnam, Anh lived a life of remarkable devotion — to her faith, her family, her students, and her community.

From a young age, Anh felt a profound calling to serve others through education. She began her teaching career at the age of twenty. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Vietnamese Civilization from the University of Saigon in 1968, and later, after coming to the United States in 1983, pursued further studies, earning a Master of Science in Education from Buffalo State University in 2003. Education was not merely her profession; it was her purpose.

On June 12, 1964, she married Thu Ly, the two built a life together for over sixty years.

A devoted Catholic, Anh was known for her generous spirit, freely giving her time and resources to those in need, faithfully supporting charitable causes, and offering her gifts wherever they were needed most. She also found joy in gardening and in continuing to learn, two things that stayed with her well into her later years. Her garden was a quiet reflection of her inner life — patient, nurturing, and always yielding something beautiful.

Those who knew her will remember her as a woman of quiet strength, warmth, and wisdom — always eager to learn, always ready to help. She leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the lives of every student she taught and family she encouraged. She treated learning as something worth pursuing at any age. Her family and those who knew her will carry that example with them.

Anh is survived by her beloved husband, Thu Ly; her sons, Linh Ly and Binh Ly and his wife Sheila; her grandchildren, Malennie Ly and Bryan Ly; two brothers and three sisters. She was preceded in death by her son, Bao Ly.
