Annie Marion Knox Wilson, 82, returned to her heavenly home on September 18, 2016 after a valiant battle with a brief illness. Her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Annie was born to the late Archie and Geneva Knox in Princess Anne County, Virginia on May 1, 1934. Annie attended public schools in Virginia, J.C. Price and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Annie had a passion for singing. She attended Westminster College in Princeton, New Jersey, studying voice and piano under the direction of John Williamson. While attending Westminster, she had the opportunity to sing with the college choir at Carnegie Hall. Annie also studied music under Bertha Nelson in Norfolk, Virginia. She also sang with the Bank Street Choir under the direction of Noah F. Ryder, where she sang solos in Handel’s Messiah and performed at weddings and funerals.
Annie married Tilmon Lofton (deceased), a military serviceman (Army), and from that union she was blessed with two daughters, Sharon Lynn Lofton (deceased) and Wanda Lofton. Annie later remarried, William Henry Wilson, Jr., a Master Sergeant in the United States Army. They traveled extensively as military families do. They were stationed in Germany and later in Panama before returning to the States to relocate to various military bases. They ultimately settled in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Annie was an educator at heart. She worked closely with children in the Virginia school system. Annie was first employed at Laura E. Titus School in Norfolk, Virginia. She retired from Malibu Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Virginia after 33 years of service.
Annie was a very outgoing and fun-loving person. She was active in the Pinochle National Club, the Drifters, the G.A.B.B.S., and the 100 Black Women’s Club.
Annie leaves to treasure her memory her daughter, Wanda Lofton.
