
Norfolk - Annis Cutherell Jolley,93, died at home on May 31, 2015. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. She was born July 28, 1921, to Caleb Sidney Cutherell and Anna Louise Barton Cutherell on Great Bridge Blvd., Norfolk County, the eldest of her siblings, Doris, Caleb, Elmer, Elizabeth, and Catherine. She was married to James William “Bill” Jolley from 1943 until his death in 2010.
Blessed to have her as Mother and Grammy are her children, Janet Jolley Wenger and husband J. Lowell Wenger, of Harrisonburg, VA; James William “Bill” Jolley, Jr. and wife Janice Sharpe Jolley, of Kannapolis, NC; and Susan A. Carroll and husband Stephen B. Carroll, of Chesapeake, VA; her grandchildren, Angela Wenger Yamanaka and husband Tomoki, of Japan; James L. Wenger and wife Melani, of Turkey; Roy Gordon Wenger and wife Betsie, of NC; Brandon Wenger, of VA; James William “Bill” Jolley, III and wife Lyndsey, of TN; and Michael D. Jolley and wife Kimberly, of NC; and eighteen great-grandchildren: Taira, Yoshiki, Mirai, and Kiera Yamanaka; Joshua, Rebecca, and Timothy Wenger; Elizabeth, Susanna, Samuel, Isaiah, Faith, Mercy, and Roy Gordon (IV) Wenger; Asher and Haven Jolley; and Ava and Elle Jolley.
Annis was a member of Tabernacle Church of Norfolk for over fifty years, a school teacher from the 1940’s to the 1980’s in Maryland, South Norfolk, the Philippines, California, and at Norfolk Christian Schools. She was a loving Aunt to many, and her favorite title of all was Grammy. She will be deeply missed by her family and many others who experienced the love of Christ through her hospitality, generosity, and selflessness.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Mrs. Ellen Faulk, Mrs. Renita Perkins, Mrs. Charlotte Adams, and Miss Sheena Taylor for the dedicated, faithful, and loving care they gave her.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thurs. June 4, 2015 at Tabernacle Church of Norfolk, 7000 Granby St., Norfolk, VA 23505. Donations may be made in her honor to the General Missions Fund of Tabernacle Church of Norfolk.
