Betty A. Barnes, 92, passed away December 27, 2025. She was born in Fayetteville, NC to the late Marvin and Ella Wade McLaurin. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Barnes. Betty was a longtime and active member of First Baptist Norfolk, where she sang in the “Kings Choir” until her health made attendance difficult. Betty had an affection for “Betty Boop” and had a collection of different things of her likeness.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 72 years, Robert S. Barnes; daughters, Debbie Swain and Thia “Cindy” Barnes (Joe); grandchildren, Brittany Swain and Christy Skaggs (Cory); great-grandchildren, Olivia Curry, Bennett Skaggs, and Everett Skaggs; and a host of other family and friends.
The funeral service for Mrs. Betty will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk.
