Betty Coulson Kanary Hudgins

Norfolk ~ Betty Coulson Kanary Hudgins went to be with the Lord, September 1, 2007 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born January 15, 1923 in Norfolk to the late Roy M. Coulson, Sr. and Eda Beck Harrell Coulson. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, John R. Hudgins, Sr.; son, Robert Kanary and wife, Virginia; daughter, Zena Craig and husband, Bill, all of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Lohse, Wanda Lohse Patterson, Elana Warren, Cori Quinn and husband, Richard, all of Norfolk, and Michael Kanary of New Bern, N.C.; three great-grandsons, Casey Quinn, Seth Quinn, and Richard Quinn, all of Norfolk; great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Kanary of New Bern, N.C.; two sisters, Marion Stansell of Stewart, Fl. and Irene Hoffman and husband, Ken of Lakeland, Fl..; brother, Roy M. Coulson, Jr. and wife, Joyce of Va. Beach; numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her closest friend, Minnie Robinson, and many loving extended family members and friends who called her Mama, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Aunt Betty. She kept us all well supplied by her thrift store treasures. She always had the best coffee, a warm smile and a hearty laugh, loved to share a good joke, and never met a stranger. She could turn a frown to a grin in a moment with her famous sandwiches, cakes, and magic goodness from the kitchen. She was a member of Norview Baptist Church and charter member of the Norview Baptist Grandmother's Choir. Also member and past president of Norview Five Pointers, member of East O.V. 20th Bay Seniors, and member of the Azalea Garden Young at Heart Group. A celebration of Betty's life will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 5, 2007 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, with Pastor Richard Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the funeral home.
