

Virginia Beach- Bill Henry Elmore, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 9, 2011. Bill was born in Lenoir County, N.C. on September 20, 1930. He was 1 of 14 children born to the late Henry and Maggie Bell Elmore. Bill gave his heart and life to Christ, November 11, 1949 and served Christ and the church over the years. He was attending Kempsville Church of Christ. Bill served 4 years in the USAF, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before entering the banking industry. After working in the banking industry for 30 years, he retired from what is now Bank of America as a Vice President, and then worked some 10 years as business manager for an Orthodontic Practice in Portsmouth. In 1966 Bill joined the Kempsville Lions Club and was a lifetime member of Lions International.. During those years he served as President of the Kempsville Club and of the Greene Co. Lions Club also. He was awarded the high honor of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award International, the highest award given by the Lions International.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Vivian Hill Elmore; two daughters Deborah E. Shifflett and her husband Bennie of Ruckersville, VA and Sharon D. Elmore of Virginia Beach; two grandsons Franklin Shifflett and his wife Kathy, Chadwick Shifflett and his fiancée Tiffany Campbell all of Stanardsville, VA; three great grandchildren, Jennifer, Kallob, and Callie; one sister Margaret E. Joyner of Raleigh, NC; 16 nephews, 17 nieces, and he was also "Pops" to a special other daughter Sheryl Wise and her husband Jim of Chesapeake.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 6:30 to 9 pm in Woodlawn Funeral Home. A service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 11am in Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill's name to Kempsville Chapter Lion's Club.
