Carlos N. Soltes

Norfolk ~ Carlos Nunez Soltes, 78, of Norfolk, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 5, 2008. He was born November 4, 1929 in Nabua Camarines Sur, Philippines to the late Dalmacio and Antonia Nunez Soltes. Retired after 26 years in the U.S. Navy as Senior Chief. He had been assigned to the Norfolk Naval Base Station and Fleet since 1972. He also retired Civil Service with Norfolk Rework Facility. Carlos was a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church, San Lorenzo Spiritual Center, Bicol Associaion of Tidewater, Inc., Knights of Columbus, and OPERATION SMILE. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Josefina Estrella Soltes; a son, Anthony Soltes; brother-in-law, Ramon Estrella; first cousins in the U.S. and Philippines, Roberto Estrella and his wife Anne; Obdolia Palencia, Rita Burro, and Sigundima Filio; nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Canada, Avelino and Iluminada Soltes and their children, Arlene Soltes, Alyssa Soltes, Vivian Soltes, Connie Soltes and her children, Cora Soltes and her children, Haide Soltes, Kaven Soltes, Demar and Angie Palencia and their children; Glen and Joji Dano and their children; nephews and nieces in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Zate, Mr. and Mrs. Santos Zate, Mr. and Mrs. Mercy Acompanado, Mr. and Mrs. Imelda Ochavillo, Henry Zate. Carlos was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Raymundo, Valentin I, Valentin II, Cecilio; sisters, Catalina, Jacinta, Joaquina, Marciana, and Marcela. A Christian Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Interment with full naval honors will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-10:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. A Rosary Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Chalice Service to follow at 7:30 p.m..
