Mrs. Catherine S. Chalk

Catherine Stevens Chalk, 93, of Norfolk, Virginia, departed this world to be with her Lord and Savior on January 25, 2023. Catherine was born in Erwin, NC to Frank and Maude Stevens. Moving to the state of Virginia in 1940, she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth and went on to complete her secondary education at Longwood College. A lifelong learner, Catherine taught English and American Studies in the Norfolk Public School system for 30 years. She was an active and faithful member of East Coast Gospel Lighthouse for over fifty years, serving alongside her husband as he pastored a small but vibrant church. She paired her passion for sharing the love of Jesus Christ with her love of education serving in the youth ministry as a Sunday School teacher, as well as actively participating in the music department and many other aspects of church ministry. She is preceded in death by Lloyd Chalk, her loving husband of forty-nine years, her parents Frank and Maude Stevens, four sisters and one brother. Left to cherish her memory are many nieces, nephews and extended family including the beloved members of her church. The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk, VA on Sunday, January 29th from 3-5 pm. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Stephen Lewis at East Coast Gospel Lighthouse on January 30th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Coast Gospel Lighthouse Building Fund.
