

Our beautiful daughter and sister, Catherine Elizabeth Nicholas, 33, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 3rd, 2013 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD due to complications from a bone marrow transplant for an extremely rare condition, CAEBV. A Virginia Beach native, Catherine was a resident of Arlington, VA. Born October 27, 1979 in Norfolk, she graduated from Kempsville High School in 1997 and from the University Of Virginia in 2001 with a concentration in accounting and MIS. She was on the gymnastics team in high school and participated in club gymnastics at UVA. In 2005, Catherine began employment with PricewaterhouseCoopers rising to Manager. At PwC, she led teams that supported cyber security services to the FBI, Departments of Health and Human Services, Social Security Administration, Department of Defense, Accounting and Finance Service, and the State Department’s Office of Foreign Assistance. Catherine was a recognized expert in the field of cyber security. She served as secretary for the Washington DC chapter of Women in Defense and was the published author of the article, “Recruiting and Developing the 21st Century Cyber Warrior”. Catherine enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, and running. She loved music and created the website, leftoffthedial.com. She was an avid Washington Capitals fan and loved playing organized indoor co-ed floor hockey. She also enjoyed playing golf with her father and brother. Catherine cherished her family and incredible friends who will miss her bright blue eyes and beautiful smile. She was a life-long member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
Catherine is survived by her parents Pete and Anne Nicholas of Virginia Beach, her brother Dr. C. Christopher Nicholas and her grandmother Catherine Theodosius both of Norfolk, her uncle George Theodosius of Virginia Beach, her uncle and aunt Alexander and Victoria Lardis of Annapolis, MD, and her cousin Mike Lardis of NYC. She is predeceased by her grandparents Charles and Elizabeth Nicholas and grandfather Ted Theodosius. May her memory be eternal.
A Trisagion service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home located at 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 9. The family will receive friends after the service. The funeral will be on Friday, May 10th at 11:30 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral on 7220 Granby Street in Norfolk. The Very Reverend Archimandrite Ambrose Bitziadis-Bowers and Reverend Protopresbyter Constatine P. Rogakos will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the Hellenic Woman’s Club and sent to the cathedral for the establishment of the Catherine Elizabeth Nicholas Memorial Scholarship Fund.
