Affectionately known as “Judy,” she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter. Born in Taiwan as the first child to Hung-Hsing and Tzu-Chin Yang, she moved with her mother to China during World War II and returned to Taiwan after the war where she helped care for her three brothers and two sisters. She then married Tuan Sung Cheng at age 15 and helped her husband build a successful shoe business from the ground up while raising their five children. In 1981, she moved to Virginia and later to North Carolina to work in family-owned restaurants alongside her siblings, children, and friends until her retirement.
Judy was kind, generous, funny, and firm in her beliefs. She was the best cook in the family and always made sure that the restaurant had everything it needed and that everyone’s bellies were full at home. Her hair and clothes were always impeccable. She enjoyed shopping, getting her hair styled, and playing the lottery and slot machines. She is survived by her two daughters and three sons, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two sisters, and eleven nieces and nephews.
