Dorothy May Smith Whitaker, 94, wife of William W. Whitaker and a resident of Norfolk passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at her residence. Born on May 1, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Adolphus and Roberta Smith. She was a graduate of Maury High School and retired as a legal secretary for the City of Norfolk. She was an active member of Squires Memorial Presbyterian Church of Ingleside, where she faithfully served in the choir. Dorothy loved traveling, hiking and gardening.
Other than her husband, she is survived by a brother-in-law, Herbert Whitaker and his wife Marguerite of Virginia Beach, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Smith and Jack Smith, and a sister, Marion Strickland.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Squires Memorial Presbyterian Church, 770 Ingleside Rd., Norfolk, VA 23505 with the Rev. Fred McCall officiating. A viewing will precede the service at 10:30 and a reception will follow the service.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Squires Memorial Presbyterian Church.
