Edward A. Doherty

Born August 8, 1949 in New York City, he was the son of the late Edward M. Doherty and Anastasia (Ryer) Doherty.

Edward was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having proudly served in the US Marine Corps. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

He was a retired employee of NYNEX.

He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 1682 and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Edward is survived by his loving wife, Cyndie; daughter Kim Roche; sons Edward, Stephen and Brian Doherty; grandchildren Colin and Erin Roche, Wyatt and Stephanie Doherty, Sean Doherty and Louie DuPree Jr.; son in law Timothy Roche; daughter in law Charlotte Doherty; sisters Diane Tobin, Kathleen McManus and Tara Grant; and nephews Thomas Tobin, Garrett and Henry Fredricks.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 6-8pm at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 818 Norview Ave., Norfolk VA.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, 11am at the funeral home.
