Esther Louise Carpenter

Esther Louise Carpenter, 105, of Norfolk, VA passed away December 31, 2019. She was born in Tacoma, WA and was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Charles Carpenter, and her daughter, Loretta Grames.

Esther will be forever remembered by her daughter, Patricia C Jacobs, her 4 Grandchildren, Jennifer Clendinen, Andrew Grames, Laura Magee (William), and Marla Canny (Bob), and her 6 Great-Grandchildren, Alexander Strickland, Daniel Clendinen, Amanda Clendinen, Jessica Magee, Adam Clendinen, and Jacob Magee.

Born on February 19, 1914, and raised in Tacoma, WA, Esther was the youngest of 3 siblings. She was married in 1934, and was a devoted military wife for many years. Esther was employed by the Naval Exchange and retired in 1989 due to her husband's health. Esther enjoyed gardening, sewing, and traveling.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Province Place of Norfolk for the compassionate care Esther received the last 1.5 years of her life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 10-11 a.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. A service to celebrate her life will begin at 11 a.m. with Dr. Phillip Herring officiating. Esther will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens following the service.
