Mrs. Gloria Mayer Murphy

Gloria Mayer Murphy, 101, peacefully passed away on April 27, 2025. Gloria was born in Millington, TN to the late Ed and Mary Hainline Mayer. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 40 years, Arthur Murphy, and her eldest child, Arthur Lord Murphy.

Gloria graduated from Meredith College in North Carolina (BA) and from Virginia Commonwealth University (MSW); afterward Gloria worked and retired as a Social Worker for the VA Medical Center. She was a member of Christ & St. Lukes Church. In her free time, Gloria enjoyed music, gardening, writing poetry, and was interested in political affairs.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Paula Fortin; grandson, Michael Kristen Murphy (Meghan); and a host of other family and friends. The family would also like to thank her faithful caregivers for their dedicated and loving service.

A graveside service to celebrate Gloria's life will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.
