
LCDR Harold I. (Harry) Winter died on June 28, 2007 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Lawrence NY on November 1, 1926 to the late Irene and Edward Winter and was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Winter Anderson of West Hartford, CT.
Harry held BS and MS degrees from the University of Miami, interned as a clinical psychologist at the Chattahoochee Mental Hospital, graduated from USN OCS in Newport, RI and went on to happily serve 27 years in the US Navy, first as a line officer at sea; then taught Naval Science at the US Naval Academy from 1965 to 1968. He went on to serve as a flight officer with VP56 at Little Creek, from which he retired in 1972. He spent his retirement working with computers and loving and nurturing his beloved grandsons and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anne Farrell Winter, his step-daughter, Daphne Lawrence Hubbard of Boston, MA., his grandsons, Dana Hubbard and wife, Janit, of Encino, CA; Jeffrey Hubbard and wife, Lori, of New York City, and Patrick Hubbard and wife, Alice and their four children; Natalie, Caroline, Aidan and Tristan, all of Santa Monica, CA; his brother-in-law Warren Anderson and niece Hope, of Windsor, CT; his nephews, Kelley Anderson and his wife, Ann of Charlotte, NC, their two sons, Porter and Miller; Duff Anderson of Summit, NJ and his wife Patricia, his children Duncan, Lindsay and Stewart; Nephew Brian Anderson and wife Monica of Jacksonville, FL , their children Katie-Marie and Kristi; and godson Donald Winter Faison of North Carolina.
He is also survived by two special computer friends Woody Turpin and Barbara Black who made his last days comfortable. His beloved cat “Homie” was also a special part of his life.
On Saturday, July 28, at 1 PM, we’ll say “Hail and Farewell” to Harry – HAIL for the love and laughter we all shared, FAREWELL to “Good ole Harry” with a luncheon reception for all his friends and acquaintances at the Chesapeake House on the Bay Reception Room.
Burial with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at 3:00 pm.
