Homer Garcera Rabulan, age 64, died on Friday, October 9, 2015 in Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was born on December 13, 1950 in Naga City, Philippines, to Laurencio and Concepcion Rabulan. At the age of 27, he married Tessie Rovira Rabulan and was quickly petitioned to go to the United States. A tough choice to make, he decided to go to America, ahead of his family, to establish a better future for his new growing family where he resided in Norfolk, Virginia.
In 1979, Homer decided to enlist in the Navy, as a Hospital Corpsman and by 1980, was able to petition his family to the United States. Four years later, he would have a total of four children and graduated the Naval School of Health Sciences, Advanced Radiographer Program, as an X-ray Technologist. In 1990, the Navy transferred his family to be stationed in San Diego, California where he and Tessie currently call home.
Even while on Active Duty, he still had a servant heart and loved the Lord. He was very active in church singing special numbers, volunteering his home for Wednesday Bible Study, occasionally preaching God’s Word during Sunday Service, and helping with various missionary services. He was a Deacon and pianist at Hope Christian Fellowship in Vista, California.
Some of Homer’s accomplishments were being Honorably Discharged from the Navy with 12 years of Active Duty service and attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He also was a Supervisor and Lead X-ray Tech at Tri-City Medical Center during most of his career and was able to retire with 15 years of Federal Service. He loved mentoring Sailors about being an X-ray Tech, to include his sons, as both are in the X-ray field. His hobbies were playing the piano by ear, singing, and exercising - specifically running.
Homer is survived by his wife, Tessie, of 38 years; four children: Theresa Fischer, Omar Rabulan, Rowena Gilmore, and Rommel Rabulan; two grandchildren: Caleb Rabulan and Noah Rabulan; and five siblings: Nellie Alegre, Shirley Vibar, Donders Rabulan, Richie Rabulan, and Editha Rabulan.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 6:30 pm at International Christian Church, 2969 Holland Road, Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk with Pastor Sonny Vitaliz officiating both services. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
