

James Alexander Williams, 85, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on February 16th, 2018. He was born in Jacksonville Florida to the late James A. and Elizabeth Nelson Williams. Left to cherish the many memories of James, is his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Ray Williams; sons, John (Maria), Jimmy (Shawn) ,Jeff (Stephanie); 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
James graduated from Norview High school and immediately enlisted as a reservist, and later served active duty in the United States Marine Corp, stationed at Cherry Point, NC. After serving his country, he found his forever career as a service technician with Pitney Bowes. Dedicated for 35 years of service he retired to provide care for his mother and brother.
James and his wife Betty were very active at their home church, First Baptist of Norfolk. They loved serving all ages from Children’s ministries to senior ministries, and everything in between. James was proud and humble to serve as an ordained Deacon at First Baptist.
James was often found in the kitchen with Betty cooking up something. He delighted in having friends and family around which made his favorite time holidays. James also enjoyed tinkering and fixing things around the house that might be salvaged. James also enjoyed going fishing on occasions with his wife and three children, while traveling with their camper in tow. James exemplified his faith and compassion throughout his years. He will always hold a special place in all of our hearts and will be missed dearly.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20th, 5-7PM, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1PM, at First Baptist Church of Norfolk, 312 Kempsville Rd, Norfolk VA.
