I will always remember how loving and sweet Lola was and appreciate how she welcomed me as her own family. Not only can Lola knit, and loved her knitting and food shows, she was also a Ninja with dragonflies. I remember at our wedding she caught a dragonfly mid-air and now every time we see a dragonfly flying around we think of her. I’m at peace with Lola and my Grammy who are now in heaven together. I told Ariana that we will always remember what our grandmothers have taught us and carry it on for our future generations. I will never forget how sweet she was and her welcoming smile. Love is sweet and love is kind. Mahalkita Lola.

FAREWELL MY BELOVED WIFE, JANE

Farewell Jane, my sweet, dearest, beloved wife. I want to thank you for the happy, old days; for the good, beautiful life; and for all the sweet memories that you and I both enjoyed and shared together! I also want to thank you for giving me three good children: Jane Ann, Byron and Araceli. Thank you for raising and nurturing them with your love. Thank you for guiding and taking good care of them when I was on deployment and out to sea. You did an exceptional, unconditional and outstanding job!
Jane, you have left behind your four grandchildren: Ariana, Alexia, Ashton and Aulden; your children; and me especially, who has been endlessly sobbing, grieving and weeping in tearing pain. I know I will never be happy again. I used to smile a little bit but ever since the night you left on August 15, 2023, I have found out that even the smallest, artificial smile is now much harder to unfreeze.
My dear wife, Jane, if love could have saved you from dying, you wouldn’t have died because your 3 children, 4 grandchildren and even your son-in-law, Jeff, loved you so much. And I would have given you all my love and yes, everything of me. Jane, my beloved wife, until we meet again,

Mom, thank you for all you have taught and given me, Alexia, and Ashton throughout our lives. You have always been so generous and loving with your time, money, help, support, gifts, etc, etc... You raised and nurtured a strong, close, and successful family and served as a great God-loving example. I strive to be like you in so many ways and to have a profound impact on my children, just as you have with Jane-Ann, Byron, and me. You are the matriarch of the extended Bueno and Calica family. With your and Dad’s love and support, so many of us have been able to establish our livelihood here in America. No words can fully express how extremely grateful and blessed I feel to have you as a role model and significant part of my life. You are forever with me and will continue to forever warm my heart, each and every day. I miss you, and I love you so very much, Mom. Mahal kita.

Here are some memories I have of Lola:

I remember when Lola would make me Persimmons bread and would give me a loaf almost every time she saw me. I would always freeze half because of how big it was and not being able to eat the whole thing before it went bad. 

I also remember Lola loving seafood and crazy buffet and taking her shellfish allergy medicine whenever we had seafood. 

I remember Lola bathing us in a tiny box to be able to save water and using that box until we could no longer physically fit in it.

I remember Lola warning us to put on sunscreen or else we’ll get skin cancer, not swimming until 30 min to an hour after we ate or else we’ll die. 

I remember Lola and I went to get Farm Fresh chicken (one of her favorites) and on the way back she clipped a mailbox with the car mirror and didn’t think it was her fault (it was dark out).

I’m thankful that Lola was very caring of her children and grandchildren and always made/sewed/knitted clothes for us to give every Christmas, I’m thankful of the happy memories she gave us, her and Papa taking the family to the Philippines, her being completely honest all the time, thankful for her wanting to constantly feed us and make sure we were fed, and thankful how she and Papa would come to my baseball games when they could.

Thank you for helping raise me to be a strong, independent, and God-fearing woman. As I’ve grown up, I’ve grown to really appreciate your craftiness and resourcefulness. You have helped establish core family values, like to always trust in God and the importance of family, that have been passed down to us grandkids and I’ll make sure I pass them down to my kids one day as well. I’m so grateful for all of the lessons you’ve taught us and love you’ve given us. We miss you so much but know we will see you again. Mahal kita.

My Auntie Jane will always be one of the strongest, thoughtful and loving woman I was blessed to have in my life.
I’d like to share this story.  I asked her and Uncle Des to attend my Dad, Tony’s surprise birthday party.  I told her it will be very special because it may be the last time my Mom, Virginia, would be able to physically sit at the table and eat on her own.  
Even though Auntie Jane was fighting her own battle, she attended. Dad even ordered an additional dish just for her. It was Eggplant Szechuan. Auntie Jane enjoyed herself thoroughly.

Eulogy to mom on 8/22/23 - Mom’s viewing and service:

Mom was the example of a lifetime Mother.

First, she brought us to church when we were kids.

Once we entered our adult lives and had our own families, she still carried out that invaluable role of a lifetime mother .  Some examples: made our bridesmaids dresses, babysat our furbabies - their 1st grandchildren , babysat our children even for a week at a time, had family vacations together, attended the kids events, set up savings funds for them, and even bought clothes and school supplies for them.

Mom even brought us adult kids, meals when we were unable to cook or just because, and bought us clothes.  She was there when we had our own questions with our  own households.

She truly was an inspiration and role model.  My prayer is that I could even come close to where she stands on a pedestal.

Lola always was so caring she made me socks from hand and told me to stand up straight so I don’t get a hunch back. Lola taught me how to play mah-jong

Lola could be Blut but that is what made he fun to be with.
When I was like around 4 or 5 Lola used to sing me to sleep while she rocked in my rocking chair in my room. Lola always wanted me to eat I used to be very skinny Lola used to say to me you need to be fat like your sister not thin you don’t look handsome so thin you look more handsome big and plump. At every Filipino party I was at lola always got up and did line dancing and told me to join her she used to show me how to line dance with her. Lola got me into baking and when I made my first loaf of bread and I brought to to my Lola and papa house Lola was not gel so well and when I showed it to her she Brightened up and it made me so happy.

The last 4 months we had with you were truly a gift to each of us from God, an answered prayer.  We all prayed when you were hospitalized before Easter that God would hear our prayers for you to live longer.
I am so thankful for that time, to see you come around from deaths bed to being able to regain some strength and be in those moments with us.  During that time, I treasured my time with you where you were the brain and I was your hands as you instructed me on baking bibingka and cooking hamburger pie, pork and mongo beans, and adobo together.  The weekend before my 60th birthday,  you were strong and energetic.  That was when we cooked the adobo and mongo beans together.  It was a joy to turn to watch you independently walking with your walker to check on me in the kitchen.  You told dad that you were going to supervise me.  Then later that evening, my heart was full as I watched you and dad, sitting side by side, dad's arms across your shoulder, watching Indiana Jones on tv, like young lovebirds.  I will never forget these sights.
I will always remember many moments where for example, I watched you sleeping, eating, patiently knitting, and walking with your walker.  I took mental notes to remember you doing this, engraved these visions of you into my mind, as one day you would not be with us.
I have a lifetime of memories of you and cherish them.  I thank you for loving me, loving my family, loving our family.  I thank you for teaching me so much and sacrificing so much for us, throughout my life.
I love you, mama and I look forward to our days together in heaven where I can hug and hold you again.

When I think of things to talk about my beautiful Lola, I could go on & on forever. Through laughs & tears & heartfelt moments that I will hold on to for the rest of my days… I put together a list of some that stood out the most. 

In no order or fashion….. 

-Family time, Christmas. From the random cheerio box to learning to be able to sit back & breathe in the family-time moments…. I will always look above & credit my Lola for making it happen.
-Gardening, her & my Papa’s green thumbs!!!!  (tomato story- growing up swimming in the pool & sneaking tomatoes off of their tomato plant!!!! The best snack- I still eat them today but none have every tasted just as good as the ones by the pool).
-country music- random but sweet Lola was the one who showed me country music! & I have loved it since!!! I bet it was the line dancing beats that got her but I am thankful to share that with her! 
-Knitting, crocheting & embroidery for absolutely anyone & everyone; where to start…. Everyone was touched by this passion of Lola. & everyone will hold her close & honor her when we get to use her beautiful creations! I am beyond thankful for all of her gifts, knowing that she put her all in every single stitch- including my wedding dress, which I am forever grateful for her- still being able to perfect it.
-The best food ever, her persimmon bread, her & Papa cooking together & joking, laughing. Her love for making sure we were fed… & being full was the only option. 
-Her laugh & the way she line danced… and always pushed us to get on up & join her. Her laugh… ❤️
-Her long loving marriage to Papa; strength as a military spouse, being the most loving mom, grandmother. Giving us such a great example of the woman I desire to be like. We can hold close her relief-  Although she isn’t here with us, & we miss her with our whole hearts… Jesus gave her her final relief & she is dancing & laughing & protecting us. I can’t wait until I can hug her again. Mahalkita Lola, forever.

Jane Ann, Jeff, and all of your family. So sorry to hear of your dear mother's passing. I always loved her kindness and things about her life she would share when I would come to some of your gatherings. She also was a great cook and loved her Philippine dishes. I know she is whole now with Jesus. I am praying that Jesus continue to comfort you all with His love. 🙏

Mom,  you welcomed me into you're family when I married your daughter, Jane-Ann, and welcomed me as your son when I no longer had my parents.  You always had faith in Jesus and our family.   You are a great mother, grandmother, a wife for your husband, a servant of Christ, and a great gardener who could get anything to grow.  You always had a determined and fighting spirit which you displayed right up to the last breath.  Heaven gained where we on Earth experienced loss.
Mom, I also remember your smile, you "forcing" food on me ("You eat") and I will always remember, "It's magic" as I am sure everyone else in the family remembers that  too.   Mom, we miss you.  We are looking forward to the day when we can see you again - In Heaven dancing and singing with Jesus!


I remember during my early years in America, Auntie and I will always go to craft exhibits. I enjoyed reading magazines about crafts, organizing and plants that she often gave me. She likes giving me some of her pocket books, too. It’s sad that I will never see Auntie again in this life.  But I know she is no  longer suffering, and she is now at peace in God’s kingdom. Thank you for loving us, we will surely miss you, Auntie.

My sweetest, most beautiful Mom… you craved crabs after we watched a show on The Cooking Channel. I love how your eyes lit up the next day when I brought to you and Dad these fresh crabs for lunch.

Our hope in Jesus Christ is that we will see each other again and be forever joined throughout eternity. In the fullness of the Lord’s presence and love, you are now in the very best place. You beat us to it.

Auntie Jane is very thoughtful, caring and well-loved.  She never missed our daughter’s milestones in the past 3 years - from baptism to birthday celebration - latest just this year.  We were truly blessed with her presence as all these happened alongside her condition . She also gives presents she personally knitted for my daughter and never failed to give us fresh produce from their backyard. You will be truly missed Aunt Jane. We love you! You will now get to meet our little angel in heaven. 

I met Jane (Lola) when my son met her granddaughter, Ariana. From the moment I met her I felt her sweetness and warmth. She was so kind and welcoming it was if I’d known her forever. She will deeply be missed but her love of family and friends will always be with the lives she touched. Rest In Peace, sweet Lola. 

My only regret is that I never met you dear Jane, yet I know you through your daughter Raz and imagine you as the kindest, beautiful woman , mother and wife. Your family, friends, and the world will miss you. You’re now an angel above. 🙏🏼

A letter to our dear Auntie Jane
      I always have good memories of auntie when I was growing in our hometown San Nicolas,Pangasinan.She sends balikbayan boxes to us with all the goodies and clothes and good stuff that we were not able to buy cause my parents are jobless.Auntie Jane and Uncle Jo (Roman Jr.) would send monthly money to us even up to our college days  until all of us finished and graduated.
     In behalf of my mother and siblings, we’re always grateful and lucky that we had a loving and supportive auntie .Thank you for your life and surely, you will be missed.

Dear Manong Desto and family,

We are all saddened by the loss of manang Jane. We will always remember her sweet spirit. She was very thoughtful specially when Mario was on dialysis. Answered all the calls for help when we needed her at UMW.,,,very cheerful. Manang Jane is now in heaven and someday we will meet her there. Please know that we are praying for you all. May the good Lord hold you all in the palm of His loving hands.
