Johnny Ray Grimsley, Jr.

Born February 22, 1961, he was the son of Johnny Ray Grimsley Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Stewart, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joy Marie Summerlin Grimsley.

John was a devoted father to Johnny Ray Grimsley III (Stacy Slemp), James White (Corrie), Kenneth White, and Randy White. Family was always at the center of his life, and he was known for his kindness, loyalty, and willingness to help anyone in need.

He retired from the City of Norfolk in 2014 to care for his wife during her illness.

He is survived by his fiancée, Susan Pitre; his sons; grandchildren Randy White Jr. (RJ), Harleen Pembroke, Alaina Michelle, and Kara Spruill; his sisters Tina Phelps, Connie Milligan, Sadie Phillips, and Kay Finch (who preceded him in death); close family members, Doodle Wilson and Huck Wilson; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

John’s passing was sudden and heartbreaking, and he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A funeral to celebrate John's life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 12 noon at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.
