

Joseph Henry McCoy Jr., 86, of Winterville, NC formally of Virginia Beach passed February 27, 2019. He was born February 15, 1933 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Joseph Henry McCoy, Sr. and Francis McCoy. Surviving wife, Carolyn McCoy; brother, Bill McCoy; daughters, Yvonne Malcom, Sheryl Morris and husband Kevin, Joy Morton and husband David; grandchildren, Jim Malcom, Justin Malcom and wife Laura, Kristin Haga, Jennifer Haga. A native of Norfolk, Henry graduated from Maury High School and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary, now Old Dominion University, had a B.S. and D.D.S. degree from the Medical College of Virginia’s School of Dentistry, and served as captain in the Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi. Henry was a member of Old Dominion University Board of Visitors, Southside Lions Club, Virginia Beach Dental Society, Virginia Tidewater Dental Association, Kempsville Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rites and Khedive Shrine, Khedive Drum and Bugle Corps,Tidewater Community College Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Tidewater Transportation District Commission. In 1974 Henry ran for Virginia Beach Kempsville Borough’s City Council Seat and was elected.1978-1980 Henry was Vice Mayor of Virginia Beach. 1980-1982 he was Mayor of Virginia Beach. Henry had a passion for golf, painting, travel and sports. Henry is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. A memorial service will take place to celebrate the life of Joseph Henry McCoy at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 East Virginia Beach Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia on March 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
