It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, Lola, sister, and friend, Juanita Teodoro LaMere, who peacefully departed this life on May 19, 2025 at the age of 82 and is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Nita, as she was known, was born in San Antonio, Philippines on August 16, 1942. She was the second oldest of nine children. She met the love of her life, Joseph Daniel LaMere, when she worked at the AC Deuce NCO Club on Cubi Point Naval Air Station outside of Olongapo City. They were married 8 months later in the Philippines. Her life became a testament of love, resilience, and devotion to family.
Nita dedicated herself to nurturing her loved ones, offering wisdom, encouragement, and the ever-present offer of food made with love. She took great pride in her Filipino heritage, sharing traditions, Ilocano recipes, and stories with her children and grandchildren.
Nita was committed to her faith and often tuned in to Filipino Catholic services when she was unable to attend local services. Her devotion showed in how she adorned her home, filling it with crucifixes, rosaries, and tributes to the Pope. Her garden was filled with statues of the saints, Joseph and baby Jesus, and the Holy Mother.
Her garden could feed the neighborhood, and it often did. Everything she touched blossomed and thrived, and she filled our lives with plants, fresh produce and delicious meals made from scratch. She knew her children worked hard and often didn’t have time to prepare meals, so coolers full of food would be prepared at every goodbye.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Daniel; her two children, Dennis LaMere (Kim) of Locust Grove, VA and Mary J. LaMere Slack (Chris) of Furlong, PA; her 4 beloved grandchildren, Hailey Volkman-LaMere (Dennis), and Maya, Jasmine, and Quinn Slack (Mary and Chris); her sisters, Carol Teodoro of the Philippines, Rosie T. Olaes of Jacksonville, FL, Aurora T. Marzo of San Diego, CA, and Carina T. Albano of Temecula, CA; brothers, Carlos Teodoro & Diosdado Teodoro of Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Severina Redor and Emilio Teodoro; sister, Eugenia T. Simon; and brother, Rudy Teodoro. She is also remembered fondly by her extended family and many friends who were a large part of her life.
Funeral service and interment will be held on June 7th at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502. Contributions of memory may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7800 Halprin Dr, Norfolk, VA 23518 where Nita was a lifetime member.
Nita’s legacy of love and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
