

Judith was born on January 29,1933 in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of the late Paul Lawrence Blassengame and Violet Lupton Blassengame, and was raised by her loving and devoted grandmother Katie Brooks Krank. She is predeceased by her brothers James Thomas Blassengame and Horace Brooks Krank.
She is also predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, James Wesley Powers, Sr.
Judy “JuJu” was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her son James Wesley Powers Jr. and his fiancée Judy Wurstner of Gautier, MS; a son John David Powers of Chesapeake, VA; and a daughter Jamie Kate Fowler and her husband Scott Fowler of Virginia Beach, VA. She was a grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren: James Wesley Powers III, Meredith, Jordan, Melissa, Jessica, and Jay. She also had two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Judy was a graduate of Maury High School where she was voted Most Athletic and went to work for a telephone company after graduation. Judy devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was very active in the community, coaching several youth basketball and softball teams. She was a volunteer for the Virginia Beach Juvenile Courts and was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and a member of the choir at Ingleside Baptist Church. She was later a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk.
Judy and Jake spent their lives laughing, traveling, and loving each other and their family.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 30, between 6-8pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a funeral on Thursday January 31 at 12pm with a reception to follow at Woodlawn.
