

Kan Toon Ng, 74, passed way on a beautiful Saturday afternoon on November 29, 2014 in the comfort of his home in Virginia Beach, VA. He is survived by Sook Ying (Connie) Ng, his devoted wife of 50 years, and his three children, Jerry Ng and wife Julie, Shirley Lao and husband Bruce, and Faye Ng and husband Edwin Dickelman; along with 7 grandchildren, Karissa Ng, Kearsta, Cody and Evelyn Lao, Elliot, Austin and Cash Dickelman: and one great grandchild, Juniper Tucker. Three of his siblings, Ann Wong, Kerry Kwong and husband Alex, and Tony Ng and wife Lisa also survive him. His Sisters Ngan Toi Lee and Toy May Yuen, predeceases him.
Born the oldest son of 6 children on March 1940 in Toisan, China, son of the late Fong Lak Ng and Gee Oi Ng, Mr. Ng led a remarkable and fruitful life. Having escaped communist China in his teenage years, he braved the challenges of a new life in Hong Kong and sought new adventures in the U.S shortly thereafter.
Mr. Ng was known throughout the Tidewater area as a entrepreneur and owner of many businesses including: Oceanfront Peking Restaurant, Hay Hay Restaurant and Imports in Virginia Beach, Lucky Chinese Restaurant and Milton’s Pizza in Elizabeth City and prior owner of the All International Auto and the earlier owner of the Estabrook Inn. His Hay Hay restaurant was the first to introduce the Chinese buffet to the Hampton Roads area in 1980.
He was characterized by his magnetic personality and huge love for family and friends. He always treated people with dignity and respect, and the best level of care– all the while sharing his infectious smile. He was also a member of the Chinese American Family Bible Church where he shared his love for the lord and many special moments with his brothers and sisters in Christ.
In honor and celebration of his life, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 7th, 2014 at the Woodlawn Funeral Home on Virginia Beach Boulevard in Norfolk.
