Lawrence "Larry" Tate

Lawrence “Larry” Tate, 94, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Virginia Beach on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Larry was born on November 1, 1921 in Irvington, VA. He is predeceased by his wives, Mary Louise Hines and Helen Judson; daughter, Elizabeth Tate Vose and son, Lawrence Tate, Jr. He is survived by his sons, James B. Tate and Arthur T. Tate; daughters, Jane Wright and Marianne McKay, 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Larry was known for his hard work ethic as a petroleum engineer for Virginia Natural Gas. During WWII, Larry was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor. In Larry’s free time he enjoyed square dancing and working in the garden.

The visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21 from 2-5 pm and the funeral will be Monday, August 22 at 10 am. Both services will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home at 6329 E. VA Beach Blvd. in Norfolk. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Brookdale Senior Living and Medi Home Health and Hospice for providing a loving and friendly environment as well as taking great care of Larry.
