Ligaya Bondoc Ligutan, mostly known as “Teng”, was picked up by her husband, Romeo Ligutan, during a beautiful sunset in Norfolk, VA, on January 14th, 2025, at the very young age of 73 to heaven. Along with her husband, she was welcomed by her daughter, Michelle Marella Ligutan; her parents, Marcelo and Dolores Bondoc; her siblings, Nieves Ronquillo and Restituto Bondoc.
Teng passed on her legacy through her daughter and son-in-law, Candi and Brandon Lemoine; her granddaughter, Emmi Lemoine; her step grandchildren, Savana Lemoine and Kai Dromeshauser; her siblings, Anicia Bondoc Razon, Charito Bondoc Ermitaño, Carmelita Sanga, Bernadette Bondoc; her nieces and nephews, Karen Ronquillo, King Ronquillo, and Jo Jo Ronquillo, Don Don Razon, Ikee Razon, and Robbie Razon, Reignette Bondoc and Raiza Bondoc-Malonzo, Charize Ermitano, Ella Ermitano-Mascasaet, and Carlos Ermitano, and Sheena Bondoc Denesi.
Teng was the third among seven siblings. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a housewife. Teng was very hardworking, majoring in Banking and Finance while working as a student assistant in the principal’s office. She had big dreams for the family, particularly to help send the younger siblings to school. She was such a loving person who was very much willing to support and provide only the best for her family.
Once she moved to the US with her husband, Teng worked for various places such as Virginia Power, QVC, and USAA. One notable workplace was Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD). After her youngest, Michelle, battled leukemia at a young age, Teng wanted to give back. She worked with Dr. C.W. Gowen and Tricia Chapman with the pediatric residency program. She loved all the residents like another set of kids. It wasn’t a job for her. She was their cheerleader, both in their profession and life. Bringing in their favorite cereal, giving approval for a partner to marry, or predicting the baby genders. Watching them all graduate and succeed was a proud parent moment for her.
Once Emmi was born, Teng gladly switched to grandparent mode for her princess. Emmi was spoiled from the day she was born. They had a unique bond. Instead of being called “Lola”, Emmi referred to her grandmother as “Yeya”. When they spent the weekends or holiday weeks together, they were inseparable. She would also make her princess’ favorite meal during every visit, sinigang. Some of Teng’s fond memories with Emmi were taking her on a train ride to DC to tour the White House with all the Christmas trees and taking the family to DisneyWorld and Universal Studios.
Teng lived for her family, always taking care of them. From her son-in-law, Brandon, to her family friends, the Jacintos, she always found ways to spoil them with food and gifts. She was generous and always kind to others. She loved traveling to different places, like Italy and France, with Romeo. She had palate for delicious food and drink. She was always dressed to impress, whether it was a special event or just a casual outing. She was gorgeous with her iconic red hair and her exquisite collection scarves. She loved a great laugh from funny stories or the dad jokes she would hear from her granddaughter or son-in-law.
Not only did she love her family to the moon and back, but she was devoted parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church for over 40 years. She was a Eucharistic Minister, a volunteer, and prayed the rosary daily with her special group. She enjoyed Father Prince’s ability to deliver humor and a memorable message through his homilies.
Teng is now at peace with the Lord and her family in heaven. She will be missed by her loved ones from the Philippines, United Kingdom, Canada, and in the US, along with close friends and colleagues she’s touched throughout the years.
