Mabel Gibbs

Mabel Elizabeth Chaney Gibbs, age 95, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 12, 2016. She was born February 10, 1921 in Bath County, Kentucky, the daughter of Moody Roscoe Chaney and Rilda Jane (Wilson) Chaney. She lived most of her life in Norfolk, Virginia, having moved there around age 20. In 2011, Mabel moved to Illinois to be closer to her sister and recently returned home to Kentucky. She worked at Norfolk Naval Base for many years, working her way up to civilian crew chief in Assembly & Repair. She was a real “Rosie the Riveter”. Mabel loved the beach and traveling. She and her sister, Edith, traveled all over the country. Mabel and her husband also took many sea side vacations with the DeShazo family. She is survived by her sister, Edith Wilson (Chaney) DeShazo; three nieces, Tamela J. (husband, Michael) Borden; Linda (husband, Dillard) Parrish; Valerie Chaney; three nephews, Michael McNeice; Jerry Chaney; Glen Bumgardner and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was met in heaven by her parents, her husband, Benjamin Hugh Gibbs; her sister, Edna Erle (Chaney) McNeice; and three brothers, Kenneth Edward Chaney; Woodford Glenn Chaney; Elwood Chaney.
