Margaret Raines Matthews

Margaret Raines Matthews, 94, passed away on Friday morning, January 15, 2021 in Virginia Beach. Margaret was born in Bell County, Kentucky to the late Thomas and Jennie Raines. She is also predeceased by her three siblings, Wallace, Zane and Tomi all of Kentucky. Margaret is survived by her devoted husband of 75 years, Gene Matthews; her children Tim Matthews, Teeny Matthews, Jan Browne and her husband, Maurice and Gigi Vanhorn and her husband, Steve; three grandchildren, Ronnie Keeter, Angie Rigdon, and Sherry Baker; five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Throughout her life she worked different careers such as retail at Be Lo’s, welding at shipyards and even cosmetology. Margaret above all was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who can be best described with her selfless nature. She was always known for her compassion, kindness and warmth to everybody.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm, Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Beth Sholom Village. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Beth Sholom for the care they have provided to Margaret over the past few years.
