Mary Josephine "Jo" Gentry

Mary Josephine “Jo” Gentry, 83, passed away to be with our Lord on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 surrounded by her many loved ones. She was born April 18, 1927 in Sparta, North Carolina to the late William Hosea Wayman and Erta Thomas Moxley Wayman. She’s predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Billy Joe “Bill” Gentry of Gentry Realty and her sister Dorothy Ingold. Her survivors are daughters Sandra Hall, Deborah Inman, Evelyn Frazier and her husband Robert M. Frazier Jr. (all of North Carolina), and Donna Gentry Ross (of Virginia Beach); her sisters, Doris Heafner and Peggy Oliver (of North Carolina); eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Cheryl A. Payne (from Maryland) and Barbara Lewis (from Washington State). A resident of Chesapeake for 40 years, she proudly held her private pilots by the age of 16 and was an active member of the Realtors Million Dollar Club for years. She worked as a Real Estate Broker for 20 years before retiring after a plane crash in 1981.

The family would like to invite friends to gather at Woodlawn Funeral Home, located at 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, from 10:00 am -12:00 pm on Friday February 25th. A service to celebrate Jo’s life will be held at 12:00 pm conducted by the Reverend Ernest Trueblood - internment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family request that in lieu of flowers Memorial donations be sent to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and/or the Autism Society of America.
