

Lishnoff, Muriel Anne Wadsworth Mikula, 92, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away on September 14, 2018 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was a resident of Westminster Canterbury by the Bay.
Muriel was born in Washington, DC on March 15, 1926. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, DC and was a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia where she was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
It was at William and Mary that she met fellow student Edward J. (Mike) Mikula on a blind date set up by a sorority sister. After graduation in 1947, she and Mike married and together they raised three children in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Mike died in 1987 and Muriel married Malcolm Lishnoff in 1996. They resided in Virginia Beach until his death three years later.
Muriel spent a considerable portion of her working life as a teacher, counselor, and administrator. She worked for the City of Norfolk public school system and later in adult education for the City of Virginia Beach. Before retiring and entering Westminster Canterbury, Muriel was employed as a teacher and administrator by City Colleges of Chicago providing advanced educational opportunities for active duty US Navy personnel both aboard US Naval ships and on shore.
Muriel was predeceased by her parents, Colonel Earl Bury (US Army Ret) and Irene S. Wadsworth. She is survived by her twin sister Marian Hamlin and younger sister Marilyn Proctor. She is also survived by her children: Nancy M. Meath (James) of Richmond, Virginia, Ned M. Mikula (Anne) of Midlothian, Virginia, and Joanne M. Lukens (Walter) of Alexandria, Virginia. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jason K. Meath (Renee), Peter D. Meath (Dexter), Matthew T. Mikula (Elizabeth), Lane J. Mikula, Sarah K. Mikula, E. Hobart Mikula, Anne W. Lukens, Margaret H. Lukens and step granddaughter Hara Glasser-Frei (Steve). She has six great grandchildren Aidan P. Meath, J. Riley Meath, Cecelia W. Meath, Parker E. Meath, Laughton E. Mikula, McKinley J. Mikula as well as four step great grandchildren, Gabrielle Glasser-Frei, Andrea Rose Glasser-Frei, Asher Glasser-Frei, Elan Glasser-Frei and numerous nieces and nephews.
She cherished the annual reunion of her family that has taken place for 36 years at Thanksgiving where she was sought after and an engaged participant in the day’s activities. Muriel was also proud of her many years of service to the newspaper, “The Chatter” at Westminister Canterbury. Her favorite hobby was travel and she did so with family in the United States and around the world.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital for their compassionate care given to Muriel during her final days. We would also like to thank Westminster Canterbury’s staff members, Macie and Drew at the Hoy Center and Denise in Enhanced Services for their care of our mother. Additionally, we give our deepest appreciation to Elizabeth Bastone for her unyielding support and devotion to our mother as well as to Brenda Stahl for all of her kindnesses.
A visitation will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home at 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk on Monday, September 17 from 5pm to 7pm. After a private burial, the memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 11 AM in the Holy Trinity Chapel of Westminster Canterbury, 3100 Shore Dr., Virginia Beach, Virginia.
