Nellie Lee Callahan

Virginia Beach-- Nellie Lee Jenkins (Nell) Callahan, 82 Wife of David M. Callahan, died on March 29, 2008 in Virgina Beach. She was born in Gloucester, VA., to Nora L.Berry and Voight Jenkins. She was predeceased by her brother Donald and sister Estelle Madoria and brother-in-laws Richard C. Evans, Dominica Madonia and Tillman D. Napier. Nellie Lee and David were married shortly after the end of World War II. This marriage lasted more than 62 years. During World War II. while Dave was in the South Pacific for 22 months, Nellie worked at the Naval Mine Depot as a clerk in the printing office. Nellie retired in October 1980 as a manpower management analyst with the Computer System Command, Ft. Belvoir , VA., with 35 years of federal service. Prior to moving to the First Colonial Inn, Assited Living Facility in Virginia Beach in 2006, She and Dave lived at Admiral's Landing Condominium in Portsmouth, VA. Nellie Lee is survived by her husband David M. Callahan and two sisters Ruth Lounette Evans of Jacksonville, NC., and Mary Cecilia Napier of Virginia Beach. She is survived by 23 nieces and nephews on the Callahan side of the family, and 9 nieces and nephews on the Jenkins side of the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2008 at 11: 00 AM at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church. Interment will follow the mass at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk. The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. on Tuesday April 1, 2008 from 6-8:00 PM .
