

Phillip Quinton Harris, 52, affectionately known as “Phil,” departed this life and entered eternal rest, early Saturday morning, September 29, 2012. Phil was known for his quiet demeanor, his sense of fashionable style, and love for music. He was a tremendous sports enthusiast, with the Baltimore Ravens captivating his attention on fall and winter Sundays. He also was a phenomenal, award- winning bowler. He discreetly boasts his skills as a 10-pin medalist. Phil was considered soft spoken but the words he spoke were filled with knowledge, care, and volume. Phillip started his career as a soldier in the US ARMY serving his country proudly. He attended Old Dominion University, gaining the skills he needed to accept a position as floor technician for Norfolk Naval Base. Later, he spent many years in leadership positions helping to better the lives of those engaged at Norfolk’s Hospitality Center. Phil was a mentor/speaker for the Norfolk Community Services Board, a Leadership Ambassador, the United Mental Health Treasurer, a Prime Plus member, and served in capacities as treasurer and assistant treasurer for Consumer’s Association. Phil was predeceased by his mother Estelle Green Harris, father Frank Harris, and brother Carol Harris. He is survived by his devoted wife, partner, and companion, Thynesis M. Harris. He is also survived by his son, Phillip Britton of Norfolk, Va, two step-sons, Aubrey L. Ricks Jr. (Christine) of Virginia Beach, Va, Shelton L. Ricks (Karen) of Suffolk, Va., mother-in-law, Georgia McMillian of Norfolk, VA, four sisters, Anna Mae Harris Queen (NY), Iris Harris Nicholas (VA), Valery Harris (VA), and Zina Harris (VA), three brothers, Frank“Roy” Harris (VA), Anthony Harris (VA), and Robert Harris (VA), two sister-in-laws, Jacqueline Sneed (VA) and Deborah Stancil (VA), and four grandchildren, Sydney Ricks, Jíni Ricks, Kennedy Ricks, and Sullivan Ricks, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
