Raleigh Dale "Scotty" Scott, 66, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019, in Portsmouth, VA. As one of five children, Raleigh was born in Roswell, New Mexico on December 8, 1952. He would become a man who was stubborn, strong willed, yet loved by many. He found passion in cars, hard work, and craftsmanship. He also proudly served in the United States Navy and retired after 20 years as a Machinist Mate First Class.
Raleigh Dale Scott was a wonderful man, commonly known as Mr. Wonderful. He had a heart of gold and a sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. His big, beautiful smile lit up every room. His optimism and determination was unlike anything his friends and family had seen before. Raleigh was even a fighter in every sense of the word; as he had survived many, many years longer than what he was given to live after his tragic accident.
He is survived by his lifetime friend, Janith English (Norfolk, VA); mother, Isabel Scott (Marietta, GA); siblings: Sheila Scarborough (Huelett, WY), Earl Scott (Marietta, GA), and John Scott (Spokane, WA), children: Tracy J. Castle (Fort Worth, TX), Christopher M. Scott (Samantha) (Stafford, VA), and Anthony Drews (Erin) (Oak Harbor, WA); grandchildren: Michael Bart, Caitlin Bart, Stephanie Bart, Alexis Scott, Tony Scott, Mary Castle, Tobius Gronwald, and Leigha-Marie Kay. He is predeceased by his brother, Michael Scott.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 18th, 2019, 12 PM, at Albert G. Horton Jr Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434. The family also plans to privately celebrate his life following the service.
